The Torre de Guzmán is one of the best known historical monuments in Conil. Built from sandstone, this wonderful tower was a tribute to Alonso Pérez de Guzmán, better known as Guzmán el Bueno, during the 14th century.
It is located in the Plaza de Santa Catalina, the place where all the important events took place until the middle of the 19th century. The Torre de Guzmán fulfilled two different functions: the surveillance of the coasts and the sighting of tuna for the fishermen to carry out the "Alambrada".
Next to the beautiful virgin beach of Castilnovo, we find the Torre de Castilnovo. This monument of cultural interest is a tower with free access and from which you can enjoy magnificent views of the sea.
Its history dates back to 1295 when King Sancho IV wanted to reward Guzmán el Bueno for his heroic behavior in Conil. Its function was not only that of surveillance and protection, but also to be able to spot tuna.
La Chanca is an architectural monument built in the 16th century to store and protect fishing utensils, Conil's main source of income. Over time it was also used to store and protect salted fish.
It was later abandoned, until in 2002 it was recognised as a Historical Heritage of Andalusia. Today it is regularly frequented by local people and tourists.
